Highlights:
- Separate production and diagnostics archives.
- Focused
fatso-diag,fatso-check,fatso-fstest,fatso-devtest,fatso-inspect, andfatso-wbtestcommands. - Expanded read-only handler/media/I/O status reporting.
- Hardened NSD64/ETD64 fallback and removable-media handling.
- Integrated conservative
fatso-format mirror-rdbplanning/conversion. - Native Commodore Installer projects with safe defaults and Pretend support.
- Deterministically rebuilt hybrid MBR/RDB test image.
Validation completed on AmigaOS 2.05, 3.1, and 3.2.2.1, including cycle-exact 68000 and explicitly configured Rev 6 68060 profiles. The complete filesystem regression finished with
ALL TESTS PASSEDon the final 68060 hybrid-image run. This remains alpha-quality software. Real Amiga block-device coverage is still pending; back up media before testing write paths.

0.1-alpha8 Pre-release
released this
2026-08-12 13:18:40 +00:00 | 48 commits to main since this releaseHighlights
- Eliminates redundant hybrid-RDB MBR*:MSD Workbench icons using the established DOS InfoData compatibility response, while preserving MSD\0 public volume identity and private FTSO RDB identity.
- Stabilizes volume identity across lazy remounts and adds fatso-probe wbtrace identity.
- Hardens mounted-device and raw formatting, partition bounds, short I/O handling, label validation, and flush behavior.
- Corrects canonical ACTION_SET_PROTECT packet decoding and tightens leading-dot compatibility lookup.
- Validated with emulator hardfiles on AmigaOS 2.05, 3.1, and 3.2.2.1. Real-hardware validation remains pending.

- Adds opt-in
fatso-mount icon-cleanup [APPLY] [alias-prefix]for hybrid-RDB Workbench fallback icons. - Live mode creates lock-backed aliases, applies non-persistent presentation names, and has each handler detach its own temporary RDB DeviceNode.
- Handles case-insensitive duplicate labels with
NAME-2fallbacks, including AmigaOS 3.2 startup behavior. - Adds a disposable duplicate/blank-label hybrid-RDB test-image mode.
Validated on emulated AmigaOS 2.0, 3.1, and 3.2.

0.1-alpha6 Pre-release
released this
2026-07-22 11:56:33 +00:00 | 53 commits to main since this release0.1-alpha6
- Fixes an AmigaOS 2.0/68000 handler-startup address error caused by odd packet values being treated as direct DOS-structure pointers after
TypeOfMem()accepted the containing allocation. - The handler now requires direct
DeviceNodeandFileSysStartupMsgcandidates to be word-aligned before dereferencing them.
This release was validated on an emulated Amiga 600 running AmigaOS 2.0.

fatso 0.1-alpha5 Pre-release
released this
2026-07-21 21:05:20 +00:00 | 54 commits to main since this releaseHighlights
- GCC/libnix migration and custom handler startup, contributed through Stefan's GCC-support PR #1.
- LTO enabled by default, with explicit utility.library initialization for GCC arithmetic helpers.
- Per-handler object and FatFs state isolation, plus serialized device I/O for concurrent RDB handler tasks.
- Hybrid MBR/RDB generator marks FAT/exFAT data partitions non-bootable.
Notes
- The release archive contains the handler, tools, AmigaGuide manual, installer, and DOSDriver examples.
- Classic Workbench 3.1 can show cosmetic RDB-device:MSD icons beside the real volume icons on hybrid RDB media; these are not duplicate mounted volumes.

fatso 0.1-alpha4 Pre-release
released this
2026-07-09 07:48:24 +00:00 | 58 commits to main since this releaseAlpha4 bug-fix release focused on hybrid formatting and host compatibility.
Highlights:
- exFAT formatting now writes the standard Windows/macOS-compatible upcase table (5836 bytes, checksum 0xe619d30d), fixing host automount issues with newly formatted exFAT volumes.
- Handler-side AmigaDOS Format / ACTION_FORMAT whole-disk FAT32/exFAT promotion now embeds L:fatso into the RDB FSHD/LSEG chain, matching fatso-format hybrid output.
- Fixed signed-byte RDB checksum handling in formatter/handler code paths.
- Added tools/make_fixed_vhd.py for wrapping raw hybrid .hdf images in a fixed VHD footer for Windows testing.
- Updated README and AmigaGuide documentation for alpha4 install, ACTION_FORMAT behavior, exFAT compatibility, and Windows VHD workflow.
Validation summary:
- make release passed.
- build/fatso remains a single stripped hunk suitable for RDB LSEG embedding.
- AmigaOS emulator boots and mounts the mixed hybrid FAT12/FAT16/FAT32/exFAT image.
- macOS mounts the regenerated hybrid image and fsck_exfat reports the exFAT partition OK.
- Windows fixed-VHD wrapper was tested separately and confirmed mountable by the user.
